Mr.Mugs Lennox
Bladder Stones are a common problem in many breeds. Symptoms can vary from being very mild to severe, with signs of blood in the urine, frequent urination or painful urination. Mr. Mugs is a fun-loving 4 year old male Shih Tzu cross who was having frequent urination and difficulty passing urine. X-rays quickly revealed the cause of his distress; Mr. Mugs had multiple calcium oxalate bladder stones in both the bladder and urethra. These tiny stones eventually filled up the urethra so Mr. Mugs was unable to urinate, and he required an emergency surgery (urethrostomy) to create a new opening for urination. Mr. Mugs’ happy nature served him well, as he came through the surgery without any problems and is now doing great. He is now on a special diet and will be monitored closely for reoccurrence of stones throughout his life.
